While the House of the Dragon team has the added bonus of working from a completed story in Martin's Fire & Blood novel, it's not a story without its own set of difficulties.. Written as a historical text of various fictional characters telling the story, Fire & Blood does not contain any dialogue.
The ages in House of the Dragon are a bit different
As was the case with Game of Thrones, the characters in the show are not the same age as in the book. For example, in the book, Alicent Hightower is 18 when she marries 29-year-old King Viserys, and his daughter Princess Rhaenyra is about 8 or 9.

The Mad King's death at the hands of "kingslayer" Jaime Lannister takes place just before the events of Game of Thrones, setting the stage for eight seasons of conflict.
Fire and bloodchronicles the history of the Targaryen family and forms the basis for HBO's House of Dragons.
