We know that Eleven was born in 1971, which means her mother got pregnant with her during the tests, sometime in 1970. A flashback from 1959 midway through Season 4 reveals a12 years oldOne (Jamie Campbell Bower). That puts One, aka Vecna, at 24 when Eleven was born.
Vecna was the one who originally kidnapped Will in Season 1.
Vecna, who absorbs andthereby feeds on their power, knew he had stumbled upon just what he needed to take revenge on the world: I saw so many things, and one day I found the most extraordinary thing of all. Something that would change everything.
As he plans to get revenge on Eleven and Brenner, Vecna goes tooafter victims who have experienced traumatic experiences in the past(reminiscent of his childhood and his time in the Hawkins lab).
Then Eleven - discovering in this future moment that she doesn't, in fact, have her siblings' blood on her hands - defeats Henry Creel and sends him to the Upside Down where he is shot down by lightning and burned to a crisp and, so , becomes Vecna.
The monster curses its victims, causing them to relive their trauma in increasingly horrifying ways until it violently kills them. (And we mean really violent.) Vecna slaughters his targets by levitating them into the air, breaking all their bones, and making their eyes and skull implode.
Why is Vecna's hand so big?
Vecna's hand
This is a reference to the D&D character Vecna, after whom this Vecna is named; the D&D Vecna has a monstrous hand imbued with dark magic. The design of Vecna's hand is also a nod to Freddy Krueger, the villain from Nightmare on Elm Street who had a huge influence on this season overall.
In the TV show, Vecna was - before he was Vecna -Henry, a young child who moved to Hawkins with his family, the Creels, in the 1960s. Displaying powers from a young age, he generally terrorized his family, eventually killing them.
In the D&D World of Greyhawk campaign, Vecna was almost completely defeated by his trusted lieutenant, Kas the Bloody-Handed. Arming himself with a sword and spiked shield, Kas betrayed Vecna and attempted to kill him, extracting Vecna from his physical body before the evil lich eventually returned.
Looks like Will is only stuck in the Upside Down for a whilea week, even if it felt much longer. Additionally, season one sees a time jump after Will is rescued and the series closes a week or so before Christmas, which again seemed to suggest it was only a matter of days before he was gone.
The second discovery was that the Upside Down – previously thought to be a copy of the normal world where time ran parallel – was stuck in the past. In particular, time there had stopped moving forward6 novembere1983, the exact date Will Byers went missing after Elf opened a gateway to the Upside Down.
Noah Schnapp: Will Byers, Schnapp's character, spends a week at the Upside Down. He is15, and Schnapp is 17 - just a two-year difference. Gaten Matarazzo: Matarazzo is 19, four years older than his "Stranger Things" character Dustin Henderson, who is 15.
Will wasn't taken "upside down" by the creature...he slipped in there to escape the creature. The creature followed next, but Will was already running and hiding upside down by the time the creature started looking for him.
